Attendance

Regular attendance at school is a must. Good habits for understanding the importance of being at school start early. Attendance is a vital part of academic success.  Please note the following guidelines for students that are absent from school.

  • Only five absences may be marked as excused with parent communication, but no official documentation. When a student has been absent  a total of five (5) unexcused days in a school year, the principal, or his/her designee, as a matter of concern, shall contact the parent.
  • When a student has been absent a total of fifteen (15) unexcused days in a school year, the principal or his/her designee will send the first legal notice.
  • When a student has been absent (unexcused) a total of twenty-five (25) days in a school year, the principal or his/her designee will send the second legal notice, the Administrator completes a “Truancy Affidavit,” and will refer student to truancy advocate.

Students will be recognized for perfect and outstanding attendance. Please be sure your student is at school every day and on time to help ensure his or her academic success.

Breakfast

Just a reminder, breakfast is served from 8:40-8:55 only.  Students arriving after 8:55 will need to head straight to class.  Students arriving  after 9:00 AM are considered tardy.  A parent will have to walk them to the door to sign the child in so they can receive a tardy slip.

Welcome Back Roadrunners!

Hello from Riverside Elementary!  All families will be receiving an email just like this every Sunday with school news and events.

Back to School Night

There will be a Back to School night on Monday, July 24 from 5-7 PM.  Students and parents will get to meet their teacher in the classrooms (class lists will be posted) and have the opportunity to confirm transportation and exchange information.  This helps us ALL get off to a great start.  Please be sure to stop by the PTO table in the rotunda.  If you are a 4th or 5th grader, please stop in the library to pick up your chromebook. All families should stop in the cafeteria to receive your car rider number (even if you don’t plan to be a car rider, we will assign you a number and give you a car rider tag). We will have computers set up in the cafeteria for those that need to register still or apply for Free and Reduced lunch. We hope you will be able to join us for this important event.

Kindergarten families:  Please make sure you pick up a NEW lanyard from your child’s teacher.  Please ensure that your student wears this to school every day for the first month of school.

Free and Reduced Textbooks and Lunch Applications

School Supplies

You may bring school supplies to the Back to School night if you wish.

Arrival/Dismissal Changes

We have made some changes to our arrival and dismissal routines.  In order to facilitate clear communication on how these new routines and procedures will work, we have made some short video clips.  Please make sure you share these videos with caregivers that may be picking up or dropping off your student.

This is our last week of school for the 22-23 school year.  Our last student day is Thursday.  Please check powerschool for any missing grade assignments and contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions. ALL library books are due back to Mrs. Harrington for the end of the year inventory. 18 books still need to be returned. Mrs. Harrington would like to give a shout out to the following grade levels: Kindergarten, 4th and 5th all of their books are turned in.  The Jeffersonville Library has a summer reading program every year.  Please sign your child up and keep them reading throughout the summer.  The more they read the better reader they become.  Even a nightly routine of reading to your child will help build reading vocabulary.

Final grades will be reported in Powerschool and available to parents the first week of June.  We will also be sending final paper copies to all.

This will be the last parent message for this year.  Our next parent message will come out the weekend before school starts, Sunday, July 23. Have a GREAT summer!
