Dyslexia screening for student in Grades K-2-

For the 2022-23 school year, Indiana’s public and charter schools must meet added requirements to identify, as early as possible, struggling readers who show risk factors for dyslexia and then provide systematic, sequential, and multisensory instruction to meet their needs. All students in grades kindergarten through second grade are given a universal screener to check their skills in six different areas.  Students in grades 1-2 have completed the required dyslexia screening.  By the end of this week all grade 1-2 students will have received a letter. Kindergarten screenings will be conducted at the end of next month. Please be watching for your child’s letter and contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

5th grade Penny Competition-

5th graders can vote for their 5th grade shirt by contributing coins (and bills!) to the jars in the 5th grade hall.  The voting ends this Friday, Sept 2.  The money collected will go towards paying for the 5th grade shirts. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this contest.

Traffic Reminders-

Please remember to be good neighbors as you are waiting in the car rider line.  Please do not use our neighbors driveways to turn around.  Approaching from the Riverside neighborhood will help you get into the car rider line without having to turn around.  Also, please refrain from blocking our neighbors’ driveways.  If you do find yourself in the position of blocking a drive, please be kind and move if needed.  The speed limit is 20 MPH in the neighborhoods.  Please keep our children safe by adhering to the speed limits.

We had a great first full week of school!

Kindergarten Colors

Kindergarten Lanyards

Kindergarten parents, please continue to have your child wear their lanyard.  This really helps to identify your student quickly, as well as helping during lunch time and dismissal.

Food Service

Just a reminder that parents must apply for free or reduced lunch this year online.  Also, if you want to deposit money in your child’s account, you can do so online by setting up a lunch account.  You can even have it send you email reminders for when your child’s account is getting low.  The full price breakfast is $1.50 (.30 reduced) and full price lunch is $3.00 (.40 reduced). Food service sends out robo calls when the charges add up so please be sure to either send in cash or deposit online. https://www.gccschools.com/home/our-district/departments/food-services/

Transportation Changes:

Any transportation changes need to be communicated to the front office.  You may send in a note or call the front office at 812-288-4868. Please indicate whether this is a permanent change or just for the day.  Please notify the front office of any changes by NO LATER than 2:00.

Attendance:

If your child must be absent, please call the school first thing in the morning and leave us a message with your child’s name, teacher’s name and reason for the absence.  If your child tests positive for Covid, please know that the child must complete a 5 day quarantine beginning with day 1 being the day after the positive test with return to school on day 6.  Upon return, your student will be asked to wear a mask on day 6-10 and will be socially distanced at lunch (since they would have to take their mask off to eat).

Powerschool:

We sent home letters to set up your parent account for powerschool.  If you do not have an account already, this is a great way to see your child’s grades and keep track of progress.  If you need help or have any questions about setting up the account, please contact the front office for assistance.
