This is the last week of Quarter 2 and the semester!  Please check your student’s Powerschool account to be sure all assignments are turned in to the teachers.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.  Final grades will be posted some time during Winter Break, Dec. 18-Jan. 1.  Report cards will be sent home the week we return to school.  This will be the last parent memo until December 31. We hope everyone has a holiday filled with peace and love!

Yearbook Sales Open

You can now put in your yearbook order online at https://inter-state.com/YearbookEntry/83507K.  Our yearbook this year will be $17.  Online ordering will be open until Friday, March 1, 2024.  Paper flyers will be available in January.  Yearbooks will come in sometime in May.

Fruit and Vegetable Program

Riverside is blessed to receive the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant.  Each Wednesday students receive a fruit and Fridays a vegetable.  We receive these fun fact fliers to share with students too!  Here is a sample for this week’s fruit and vegetable.FFVP (12).pdf

Family Night Thursday!

We will host a family night on Thursday, December 7 from 5:30-7:30.  We will host math games around the world, our drama club will perform and Santa will be visiting in the Santa Shop in the gym.  Concessions will be available for sale from the PTO and there will be a donut truck outside!  We hope you will be able to join us for a fun night! 2023-24 FAMILY NIGHT

APA Collection Boxes 

During the week of December 4th-8th, GCCS elementary schools will have an APA collection box in our school lobbies. The APA needs the following items:  Temptation Treats, Party Mix Treats, Friskies canned cat food, rolls of paper towels, and clumping litter. Please help the cats and kittens for the holidays and bring your donation for the APA box. The APA thanks you! Let’s show some holiday love to cats! The Animal Protection Association (APA) is a no-kill cat shelter in Jeffersonville. They are almost 25 years old and exist with all volunteers and all donations.

Basketball Intramurals

Boys in grades 3-5 may participate in basketball intramurals this week and next.  Please be sure to have permission slips turned in and final forms filled out along with the one time $5 fee.  Students may not stay unless these requirements are completed.  Please note not every grade will participate every day.  The schedule is below.

Yearbook Sales Open

You can now put in your yearbook order online at https://inter-state.com/YearbookEntry/83507K.  Our yearbook this year will be $17.  Online ordering will be open until Friday, March 1, 2024.  Paper flyers will be available in January.  Yearbooks will come in sometime in May.

PTO News

Our PTO will sponsor a Santa Shop during our family night on Dec. 7! They will be looking for volunteers to help run the Santa Shop and concessions.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact them at resroadrunnerpto@gmail.com. PTO will also host a Papa John’s day on Thursday, Dec 7.  Flyers have been sent home. Welcome back!  We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We have three weeks left in the quarter.  Please check your student’s Powerschool account this week to make sure there are no missing grades.  Let’s finish semester 1 strong!

Picture Retakes

If you are interested in having your child’s picture retaken, please send their picture package back to school.  Picture retakes will be this Friday, Dec. 1.  Any student that did not have their picture taken can have it taken at that time.  If you need more information about pictures, please contact our office.

Thank you for attending parent teacher conferences.  If you have the Title I parent compact at home to sign, please sign and return to school as soon as possible.  We are required to have these uploaded this week.

Thanksgiving Break will be Nov. 20-24.  We wish all of our families a safe holiday break.  We are THANKFUL for YOU!

Required Abuse Education

Teachers will be teaching the required Abuse Education lessons this week.  These are the same lessons we use throughout the

Book Fair total sales were  $8280.56.  50% of the sales comes back to Riverside to shop Scholastic Books. Which will help us buy more books for the RES library.

The Spirit Wear Holiday drive ends today Sunday, November 12th at Midnight.  They have added a listing in the teacher selection at checkout of CHRISTMAS GIFT – OFFICE for those not wanting the orders given to the student.

Parent Teacher conference day will be Tuesday, Nov. 7.  It is our hope to touch base with all our parents.  Please check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure of your conference time. There will be no school for students on Nov. 7.

Girl’s Basketball

Riverside will play in the first round of the tournament at Franklin Square at 4:45 on Thursday this week.  If the girls win that game, they will play in the second round at JHS, time TBA.  Good luck to our team! 

Chess

Due to unforeseen circumstances, all chess practices will be canceled for the remainder of this semester.  Mrs. Newkirk will continue practices second semester. 

Veteran’s Day November 11

Veteran’s Day is November 11.  We will have a spirit day on Friday, November 10. Students and staff wear red, white and blue to honor our Veteran’s.  Thank you to all who have served our country in the Armed Forces!

Even if it is only a phone conference, we would like to touch base with everyone.  Each teacher has sent home their own scheduling form or sent one electronically.  If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Book Fair News

Along with the book fair, we will be collecting funds for our All for Books program. By donating $1, or any loose change, you help us to:

Fruit and Vegetable Grant

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools during the school day. The goal of FFVP is to introduce new and different varieties and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce among children. FFVP also encourages healthier school environments by promoting nutrition education.  Fresh fruits and vegetables will be given to students every Wednesday and Friday afternoon.

Keeping our Students Healthy

Oct. 22 – 28 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. The goal of this awareness campaign is to bring together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, tribal, and local governments to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness in order to reduce childhood exposure to lead.  https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/national-lead-poisoning-prevention-week.htm

Kona Ice will be at Riverside Wednesday, November 1 from 5:30-7:30pm during our ball game and beyond.  Part of the proceeds from this event come back to support our PTO.

This week is Red Ribbon week which is a National Family partnership for drug prevention, education and advocacy.  We will be putting a focus on keeping our bodies healthy.  Our Student Council put together a list of special dress days for Red Ribbon Week.

Welcome back!  We hope everyone had a great fall break.  Quarter 1 grades are available in Powerschool.  We will send paper copies of report cards home this week.

The girls’ team will again be coached by Mrs. Wallace and assisted by Mrs. Sharpe.

Cheer Teams 

Congratulations to our cheer team members for the Girls’ season: Maliyah Beason, Olivia Bronson, Parker Truesdale, Grace Dimmitt, Angeline Campbell, Kaprina Mayo, Rylie McKinley, Tegan Yarbrough, Everleigh Nelms.  Their first practice will be Oct. 10.

Our Boys’ season cheerleaders will be:  Dakota Bell, Naiana Frost, Chloe Johnson, Caliyah Franks, Za’Ryah Pittman, Joy Williams, Armani Flowers, Sophie Carson, Nyomi Ward, Stella Martin.  Speedy will be Peyton Yates.

Both groups will receive more information about practices after fall break.

This is the last week of Quarter 1.  Please check with your student and their Powerschool account to see if there are any missing grades.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.  All missing assignments should be turned in no later than Wednesday this week.  All grades will be finalized by Friday.  Final grades will be available over fall break and report cards sent home the first week in October.

We have been recognizing classrooms this past week for days of perfect attendance.  Please be sure your child is at school every day and on time!  When they miss school, they miss out on part of their education.  Thank you for all your efforts to get them here.  We appreciate you!

Fall Break is October 2 through October 6.  We will return to school on Oct. 9.  There will be no Sunday parent email on Sunday, October 1.  The next parent email will be Sunday, October 8.  Have a safe Fall Break!

Girls’ Basketball

Try-outs will be Monday, September 25 and Tuesday, September 26 until 4:30.  Try-outs are closed to parents.  Students will know whether they made the team on Tuesday after try-outs and players will receive practice and game schedules as well.  Practices will be held for those that make the team on Wednesday and Thursday this week until 5PM.

Picture Day will be November 3. Retakes are scheduled for December 1.
