Sunday NEWS March 3, 2024

March 3, 2024

March is the month to focus on reading!  Last week we celebrated Read Across America with some special reading activities.  This week and next we begin the IREAD state testing for our 2nd and 3rd graders.  In third grade we transition from learning to read to reading to learn.  It takes all of us together to develop great readers and at home parents can help right from the start by reading aloud to your child.  For more information on the importance of reading to your child (no matter the age!) and some activities to continue your focus as a family on reading, please visit this website:  https://readaloud.org/21daychallenge.html.   A great way to build a read aloud library at home is to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at  https://imaginationlibrary.com/. Parents can sign up for any child age birth to 5 and the Clark County program will send you free quality read alouds to share with your child on a regular basis to help build a rich vocabulary right from birth.  If you don’t have any children in your household below the age of 5 to sign up for this program, children of any age can sign up for a library card from the Jeffersonville Public Library: https://jefflibrary.org/using-the-library/.  Remember the more you read the better reader you become!

Track Season coming soon!

Track will be open to any student grades 3-5 interested in running.  The permission slip is due back March 15.  Practices begin April 1 right after spring break. 2024 Girls & Boys Track Information

Car Rider Line

Here are some reminders which will really help in keeping our car rider lines efficient:

  • In the morning only- the line will be directed to pull all the way down past the car rider slots to begin unloading cars.  Please have your child ready to exit your car when you stop along the sidewalk.  Please pull all the way down (even when it is raining).
  • Right turns only allowed.  Please make a right turn into the lot and a right turn leaving the lot.  This helps the flow of traffic for everyone.
  • Reminder that anyone with a student in Prek or Ms. Klink’s classroom should be in the Prek line.  Deliver your other students with your Prek student.  You only need to go through ONE line.

PTO News:

The PTO will be sponsoring a Papa John’s night on Thursday, March 7.  Fliers will be sent home this week and posted on the RIverside PTO Facebook page.

This week is ‘Read Across America’ week.  Our students will be reading with buddy classes on Friday and participating in a few other activities to highlight reading.  This is a great week to take a moment to sit with your student and read a book.  Ask your student what their favorite book is or share your own favorite story from your childhood.  The more you read the better reader you become and that includes listening to read alouds!  Encourage your student to spend time every day practicing reading! On Friday we will wear Silly Socks and shirts with words to read! Check out our full  list of activities:  Copy of 2024 Read Across America Day

PRIDE Schoolwide!

We have been working on the character trait of Dependability for the past month of January.  We are now learning about Efficiency.  Students learn about the PRIDE trait of the month and then put it into practice.  We have special drawings at the end of the month for prizes.  Students who have been caught showing the PRIDE characteristic of the month receive a special buck that goes into a drawing.  Please ask your student how they are showing PRIDE at school demonstrating Persistence, Respectfulness, Initiative, Dependability or Efficiency.  It takes all Roadrunners showing PRIDE and working together to make our school successful!
